Tesla turns into a manufacturer of robots Optimus: soon they will appear in factories

In 2021, as part of the Artificial Intelligence Day event, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced his intention to start creating robots. The Tesla robot shown on the slides should be officially presented already this year – it is expected that we will see a humanoid robot that is capable of performing human work. The entrepreneur warned that at first the robot will certainly make mistakes, but then it will be able to take responsibility even for difficult tasks. Elon Musk seems to be serious. During Tesla’s annual report, he announced that in the future, developing robots could be more important to his company than making electric cars. In 2022, the company will not release new models, but will focus on accelerating the pace of work at new plants. The shortage of workers will be filled with the help of Tesla robots.
According to Bloomberg, the Tesla robot has already acquired an official name – it will be known as Optimus. Today little is known about him, but there is still interesting information. We have already seen the appearance of the robot on the slides of last year: like a real person, it has a torso, arms and legs. There is also a head on the shoulders, but instead of a face, a display is installed to display information. What data will be shown on the display is still not known.
The robot is similar to people not only in appearance, but also in physical parameters. His height will be 173 meters, and his weight will be about 57 kilograms. Nothing is known about running, but walking speed can reach 8 kilometers per hour – just like in humans. Physical strength is enough to lift objects of various shapes weighing up to 20 kilograms. Decisions will be made by the Dojo computer, which is equipped with neural networks that “recognize the world and understand how to navigate it.”
Elon Musk has already mentioned that at first, the Optimus robot will certainly make mistakes. Therefore, at first it will be used exclusively at Tesla factories. And only then, when the engineers are convinced of its performance and safety, the company will be able to sell it to third parties. At the moment, one of the most popular robots for performing production tasks is Spot from Boston Dynamics. It costs about 74 thousand dollars and is available even to the Russian company Sberbank. The cost of the Tesla robot is currently unknown – there are not even any rumors about this.
